I think Casey is right when he says that not knowing gay people makes it easier to dehumanize them. I think one of the most important things we can do is start making friends with people who disagree with us. I think we need to start cultivating a climate of civility founded on mutual respect and affection. And I don't think we can wait for the other side to reach out to us.
